Starting the store of the redlands land

The work in the vineyard does not stop during a calendar year. Every season has its works to be done, as we cherish our vines to obtain the best wines
possible.
Summer, a season that usually rimes with vacations, rest, slowing down, is for us a very intense period in the winery, and more specifically in the vineyards.
Indeed, it is the season when the grapes have to do their veraison (change of color from green to yellow/red).

grow the store into a new location

Three years ago, Sinh had an opportunity to grow the store and move into a new location on the eastern side of the shopping center. He bought the new building while retaining the old location. Yoga V Studio is now in the old Redlands Liquor spot, which is roughly 3,000 square feet. The current Redlands Liquor is three times the size and will grow again in the coming months.

Business opportunity is important

“Business opportunity is important,” he said. “There’s a lot of freedom to run a business the way you want to.”

Manager LaNita Blackman said the way Sinh has run his business has kept her and many of the staff around for years. Blackman has worked at the store for more than five years.

“It’s fantastic. He’s a wonderful person to work for,” she said. “It’s just like family.”

Expand and scale the store in Redlands Liquor

Earlier this year, Sinh purchased the old Aztecas location, 2516 Broadway, and the Canyon Country Animal Hospital will move into that building. The animal hospital is currently adjacent to Redlands Liquor in the same structure. Sinh plans to knock down the dividing wall and expand the liquor store to 12,000 square feet.

Building a chain of retail stores

Sinh’s focus remains on the Redlands Liquor store and he said he works with a property management company to handle most of the landlord duties. He said he’s received a lot of support from his family, including his sister, Simmy, who works in the store, and his parents, who travel back and forth between the U.S. and Cambodia.

The wine brands hold the world market

Blackman praised Sinh’s work ethic and said she and another manager finally convinced him to take days off a few years back. Until then, Sinh mostly worked 12-hour days, seven days per week.

Last year, he took Blackman and another manager to Napa, California so they could learn about wine. Blackman called it a “once-in-a-lifetime trip.”

Sinh said he believed his hard work would pay off and he’s continuing to work and take chances to improve his business.

“If you believe in something, go for it,” he said. “If you fail, you learn from it.”
